West Dorset Club impress and County Championships

BIG IMPROVEMENT: The West Dorset Swimming Club squad members.

DORCHESTER-based West Dorset Swimming Club took a strong team to the recent annual Dorset County Championships held over three weekends, at The Littledown Centre, Bournemouth and The 1610 Centre, Dorchester with all competitors having achieved the necessary qualification times.

In total, the team competed in 353 swims with a staggering 261 personal best times recorded. The team successfully had 19 County Finalists, appearing in an astonishing 63 finals over the three weekends, an 80 per cent improvement on 2016.

A club spokesman said: “As a club we have gone from strength-to-strength in the last year and the swimmers’ hard work in training truly showed. We are incredibly proud of all our swimmers that took part.”

The club’s County Finalists were; Darcy Cornette, Jacob Watson, Daniel Kingman, Henry Wyrill, George Green, Alasara James, Holly Johnson, Abigail Barnes, Ellie Springett, Lauren McRobbie, Charlie Hitchcock, Harry Buttle, Alice Adams, Anna Charles, Aidan Watson, Lauren Osgood, Millie Hambleton White, Ellie Wilcox and Jessamy Fursman.

From the finalists, West Dorset swimmers flew off the blocks to take 28 medals over the Championships.

County Champions winning gold medals: Daniel Kingman (14) 100m back, 50m back and 200m back. Holly Johnson (12) 100m fly. Jessamy Fursman (10/11) 100m back & 200m fly.

Silver: Abi Barnes (14) 200m fly & 200m back. Lauren McRobbie (14) 50m Free, 50m back, 100m back and 100m free. Daniel Kingman (14) 200m free. Holly Johnson (12) 50m fly. Ellie Wilcox (14) 400m free. Jessamy Fursman (10/11) 200m back.

Bronze: Harry Buttle (16yrs+) 1500m Free, Abi Barnes (14) 800m Free & 100m fly. Lauren McRobbie (14) 200IM & 50m fly. Henry Wyrill (15) 50m back, 100m back & 200m back. Lauren Osgood (10/11) 50m back. Jacob Watson (13) 50m fly & 50m back.
