HONITON Lions are once again appealing for residents to recycle their spectacles rather than throw them away.

Honiton Lions have been working with fellow club members from Chichester who first started the initiative.

The West Sussex based club has been collecting spectacles for recycling since 1967, and works with Le Havre Lions and Medico France who help in the shipping of the glasses to countries like Papua New Guinea, Ghana, Nepal and Nigeria for them to be re-used.

Last year more than 300,000 glasses were sent to France. Honiton Lions also collect hearing aids.

If you have any glasses lying around that you want to recycle, you can drop them in to Eye Deals on Lace Walk. Collections are also taken at Dunkeswell and Hemyock doctors’ surgeries.
