Seaton councillor leaves the Tories to become Independent

SEATON district and county councillor Jim Knight has announced that he has left the Conservatives to become an Independent.

The decision was prompted by his failure to be nominated as a Conservative councillor for the forthcoming Devon County Council elections.

The Conservatives chose Helen Parr as a candidate for what will be the new Seaton and Colyton Ward following a boundary review.

On Friday afternoon he told Pulman’s View from Seaton & Colyton: “I’ve been asked by lots of people to stand as an Independent [for county council].

“I have given it a lot of thought and, yes, I will stand as an Independent.

“I have given notice to Devon County Council and East Devon District Council that I will go Independent.

“I’m going Independent so that I don’t let the people down who have put their trust in me.”

He has been a member of Devon County Council for eight years.
