FIRE crews from Chard and Crewkerne are currently tackling a blaze at a barn near Winsham.
Two crews from Chard, one from Crewkerne and a Water Carrier from Yeovil were sent to a report of the barn fire.
On arrival crews confirmed that the barn contained hay and straw, a boat and a tractor, crews got to work using two breathing apparatus and a compressed air foam jet.
Another three pumping appliances were requested and from Seaton, Ilminster and Yeovil are now in attendance.
A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire Service said: “There is approximately 30 tonnes of hay and straw in the barn. Fire crews are making steady progress. A decontamination zone has been set up as a precaution due to low hazard asbestos. The barn measures approximately 20 metres by 20 metres. The hay and straw within the barn is still alight and one camper van has been destroyed by fire. Two telehandlers are in use to remove the hay and straw. Fire crews are using one compressed air foam jet, one hose reel and two breathing apparatus. A water relay is now in place and steady progress is still being made.”
