NEWTOWN turned up the heat in the Devon & Exeter League Premier Divison Title race with a nervy 4-3 victory over fourth placed Okehampton Argyle.
The Okes started well and led 2-0 before the hosts battled back to secure the win with Ben Howard (2), Corey O’Donoghue and Luke Jones among the goalscorers.
There were plenty of goals at Acland Park too as hosts Fention thrashed in-form Beer Albion 7-1. Star of the show was Charlie Selley who scored five which included two penalties. Ben Ede scored one and had a hand in the other that may yet be attributed as an own goal.
Elsewhere, Exmouth Amateurs surprisingly failed to raise a team for the trip to Elmore who will be awarded the points.
Newtown’s win sees the Honiton Town’s lead at the top cut to just three points.

The local football scene was saddened to hear of the sudden death of Dave Carter on Wednesday evening.

A minute’s silence is likely to be observed at all games on Saturday.
