Neighbourhood Plan for Beaminster takes its first steps

BEAMINSTER Town Council has taken its first steps towards drawing up a neighbourhood plan for the parish.

Neighbourhood plans enable residents living or working in an area to decide such items as jobs and housing, the types and character of any buildings, where they should be developed and what infrastructure is needed to support this.

The neighbourhood plan is being led by the town council with the help of volunteers.

At its meeting in June, town councillors resolved to host a public meeting with a view to appointing a working group. This took place on July 26th when 32 residents attended and 16 volunteered to be a part of the process.

A spokesperson for Beaminster Town Council, said: “The town council is very grateful to everyone who came to a very lively meeting and thanks all those who put their names down to help.

“We hope that more residents will come forward so that we can put the town under the spotlight and agree its future.

“We already have the town plan – Beaminster Future – which is a good place to start.”
